Good

The last joke could have played better if he had have been uncharacteristically pleasant until that moment.

AxeShades responds:

Well, as you plainly stated, that would be quite out of character :)

Really well done

Try experimenting with making the dialogue/grunting a little quieter when the camera is far away to give it a sense of distance.

CatFat responds:

yeah ihad alot of trouble with the sound syncing etc with this animation so i sort of gave up on the little details like that by the end :)
thanks !

Congratulations

Your experiment has proven conclusively that it is possible to import jpegs and apply basic filters.

Well done.

One point is the well drawn bubble, the other is for Jo Hisaishi.

Kyothine responds:

thank you. My next test is whether or not you can use motion tweens on pngs. lol.

You actually winning something?

It was good, but it could have been a lot better. Sometimes, by simply cutting out the less funny jokes it makes the movie as a whole funnier - and it's less work!

Here's something to try: Take each joke and either say it out loud, or explain it to a friend - you'll judge it harsher out in the open, and you can easily tell which jokes won't fly.

For example:
"Zelda sees a rupee across a cliff. He falls down the cliff trying to reach it"

Once explained, it becomes obvious that there is no joke there, though in one's mind it may feel like one.

LinkXRetro responds:

hmm.... i see...
thanks

Hey again

You do two things well: Static faces, and static backgrounds. They're genuinely excellent, better than most of the videos here. I'd team up with someone for everything else - shouldn't be too hard, most people are bad at the things you're great at, and vice-versa.

"...I write this coz I think you're worth the trouble. "

Cik105 said it the best. We wouldn't bother if you didn't display potential.

Matt-G responds:

shhhhh

Gay joke

Okay, you just went with a gay joke there. Yeah, I guess they're still kind of funny.

LAVAGASM responds:

I guess you went with a gay review. Yeah, I guess you're a fag.

Why is this rated so low?

This is the first of your The Fear Whole series I've seen, and I must say I am definitely going to watch the rest. This first one is excellent - really funny. A bit more polish and practice and this could be perfect.

Could have been paced a little faster, and the voices a little clearer, but apart from that, well done!

Scythemantis responds:

When I go back and watch this one now, it looks and sounds so awful compared to my most recent that I can't even finish it! One day I'd like to re-record and touch it up, but on the other hand I kinda like how it illustrates my progress. I'm hoping one day I can look at my most recent and be just as disgusted - I'll know I got even better! :D

Better than its rating

For simply a training project, I reckon it turned out excellent. I really admire your style, they way you can convey so much with relatively few poses, very clever. And when we think about it, that's what home-made Flash is all about - more with less.

One note here, I would have sold the option of 'black and white' as more of a joke option (cause it is pretty much pointless) - You know, really treat it as a massive special treat in a big flashing button, some kind of supreme novelty.

SimonG responds:

Thank you for the review. I'm glad you liked as it is :) (except from the black and white-thing... I know it's silly, I just wanted something for a reason to make a menu :O)
Oh and you inanimated thing rocked, kinda another style though, but cool.

Take your time

I love the unique style. Kind of like... looking at Word 'clip art' on drugs.

I don't think it needed more per se, I think it needed to take it's time. It felt a bit rushed. I think people need to get sucked into it a bit more.

Other than that, good work man. Kudos on the excellent keyframing.

UnderARock responds:

yeah haha, some of the reason its rushed is cause I wanted to end off on that part of the song, the rest is my fault
